Tennis court markings across Bournemouth and Dorset

We mark new tennis courts and repaint worn lines on existing ones, for schools and public spaces across Bournemouth, Dorset and the surrounding counties. Every court is set out to the official dimensions, so it's fair to play on and ready for matches.

If your court is also used for other sports, we can add their lines at the same time, so one surface caters for more games.

Tennis court dimensions

A full-size court, as set out in the International Tennis Federation's Rules of Tennis, measures:

Length23.77m (78ft)
Width for doubles10.97m (36ft)
Width for singles8.23m (27ft)
Service line from the net6.40m (21ft)

All measurements are taken to the outside of the lines, and the lines count as part of the court. The baseline can be up to 10cm wide, the centre service line is 5cm, and the other lines are between 2.5cm and 5cm.

Net posts and net height

The lines and the net have to line up. Net posts stand 0.914m (3ft) outside the doubles sidelines, or the same distance outside the singles sidelines for a singles net, and the net is 1.07m high at the posts and 0.914m at the centre. When we set out a new court, we work from the post positions so the net sits exactly on the centre of the court. Leave plenty of clear space behind the baselines and beside the sidelines for players to run into, and check the run-off with your surface installer before the court is built.

Repainting faded tennis court lines

Court lines wear with play and weather, and faint lines make line calls hard. We repaint them over the existing layout, so the court is crisp and playable again without starting from scratch.

We use water-based acrylic paint on sports courts. It's durable even in harsh weather and environmentally friendly, and it wears away gradually rather than flaking, so the lines can simply be repainted when they fade. If the layout is changing, for example to resize a court or remove lines for an old sport, we can remove the old markings first.

Adding lines for other sports

Many school and public courts double up for other games. We can add lines for netball, basketball, badminton or five-a-side alongside the tennis court, in a different colour for each sport so players can tell them apart.

See our netball and basketball court markings for those layouts, and our outdoor court markings for every sport we mark.

How a tennis court job works

  1. Tell us about the court. Call 01202 548 102 or use the form below. Tell us whether it's a new court or a repaint, and which other sports it's used for. Photos help.
  2. We assess the court and give you a price. We'll check the surface and the space, and agree a date that suits your timetable.
  3. We prepare the surface. Lines need a clean, dry surface, so we make sure the court is ready before we start.
  4. We mark the court. We set out the lines to the official dimensions and leave the court ready to play on.
